Mears Machine Corporation, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, has announced the purchase of its fifth Sapphire XC metal Additive Manufacturing machine from Velo3D, Fremont, California, USA, with options to acquire two additional machines as customer demand continues to grow. The investment continues the company’s expansion of production-scale AM capabilities and further strengthens what is reportedly one of North America’s largest independent fleets of Velo3D Sapphire XC machines.

The additional machine will increase manufacturing capacity for complex, high-value components produced in nickel superalloys, supporting growing customer demand across aerospace, defence, next-generation propulsion, AI infrastructure and advanced computing.

“Adding our fifth Sapphire XC represents far more than another machine,” said James Lloyd, Chief Executive Officer of Mears Machine Corporation. “It reflects the confidence our customers have placed in Mears to deliver production hardware with the quality, scale and speed they require. We continue to invest ahead of demand, so our customers have the manufacturing capacity they need as their programs transition from development into production.”

“Our strategy has always been to combine engineering excellence with manufacturing execution,” Lloyd continued. “Technology alone is not enough. Customer value is created when engineering excellence is combined with disciplined execution. We challenge assumptions, engineer from first principles and remain relentlessly focused on delivering solutions that matter to our customers. That philosophy continues to guide every investment we make.”

The investment supports Mears’ continued expansion across the aerospace, defence, space, energy, AI infrastructure and advanced industrial sectors, where demand for production-scale metal Additive Manufacturing continues to accelerate.

Mears’ expanding Sapphire XC fleet reflects the company’s long-term strategy to build scalable, production-ready AM capacity for customers operating in some of the world’s most demanding industries.

Arun Jeldi, Chief Executive Officer of Velo3D, shared, “Mears’ continued investment reflects the confidence they have in both Velo3D’s technology and the growing role of additive manufacturing in production. Adding a fifth Sapphire XC demonstrates their commitment to scaling advanced manufacturing capabilities, and we’re proud to support their growth as they deliver increasingly complex, mission- critical components to customers.”
