EDM Performance introduces tilt and slides packages for metal Additive Manufacturing
October 29, 2024
EDM Performance Accessories, Brea, California, USA, has released a tilt slide tooling package for metal Additive Manufacturing. The company states that this solution is suited to customers who manufacture both large and small parts, but particularly where plates are fully loaded with small parts. As the machine tilts horizontally, gravity allows the parts to simply draw off as it tilts and flips upside down.
Multiple plates — including those of different sizes — can be used on the same setup. The pivot table can be customised and the fix drain set up to allow for overnight burns or run multiple plates at once. Two upgrades to the company’s slide fixturing setup are the rail system, which allows users to move parts closer and further from them, and its pivoting system, which allows users to bolt the plate directly on in a horizontal orientation fashion and then tilt it forward. Once in the cutting position, users can unlock the rails, slide it back, and lock it in place.
“What made this setup really unique is that we were able to develop this custom arm to go on our machine, so we can cut off at a 20° angle,” explained Clay Olson, Regional Manager — EDM Performance Accessories. “This gives us the same effect and the same efficiency on part drop off as a horizontal, but still keeps the simplicity of a vertical. If you want to go back to vertical cutting, it’s about a forty-five minute switch over, and you’re back to a vertical.”
