University of Wolverhampton to open Centre of Excellence for Shaped Laser Additive Manufacturing
April 1, 2025

The University of Wolverhampton, UK, has announced that it will host a two-day launch event celebrating the opening of its Centre of Excellence for Shaped Laser Additive Manufacturing. The event will take place May 7-8 at the Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills at the University’s Springfield Campus and coincide with the EOS Xperience Day Metal on the second day.
The University of Wolverhampton has been at the forefront of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing since the late 1990s, installing the UK’s first EOS M250 in 1999. The University was one of the first to develop titanium and precious metal laser process parameters and recently established low-power (<400W) laser parameters for 3D printing high-purity copper and silver. The university recently installed its latest nLight-equipped AMCM M290 marking the next milestone in the university’s 25-year AM journey.
The launch event aims to bring together industry experts, researchers, and innovators to discuss the latest advancements in laser beam shaping, sustainability and industrial AM applications.
The grand launch on May 7 will include the following presentations:
- ‘University of Wolverhampton and Green Innovation Corridor (GIC)’ – Prof Prashant Pillai, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange), UoW
- ‘Impact of investment zones & GIC on regional and national economy’ – Paul Woodcock, GIC Programme Director, City of Wolverhampton Council
- ‘UoW GEMM and Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence’ – Prof Arun Arjunan, Professor of Additive Manufacturing, UoW
- ‘Sustainable Additive Manufacturing’ – Davide Iacovelli, Regional Director EMEA, EOS UK
- ‘Unveiling the Power of Laser Beam Shaping’ – Sina Trik, Sales & Business Development Manager for Customized Systems, AMCM
- ‘Smart Fusion in Additive Manufacturing’ – Caleb Martin, Additive Minds Metal Applications Engineer, EOS
