Titomic Limited, based in Brisbane, Australia, has announced the successful development and acceptance of SAE International’s Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing Specification, AMS 7057, a new Cold Spray standard for aerospace.

The project, which began in February 2023 with Titomic’s sponsorship and technical expertise, is said to represent a transformative moment in the commercialisation of Cold Spray technology and its standardisation as a globally recognised manufacturing and repair process.

The Specification was co-developed with the global standards development association SAE International and was based on Titomic Kinetic Fusion, Titomic’s proprietary Cold Spray technology. It included rigorous testing of materials produced.

With AMS 7057 now in effect, highly regulated industries such as aerospace, defence, and others are more likely to adopt Titomic Kinetic Fusion, explains Titomic. Certification processes, which are critical in these sectors, will be significantly streamlined as the standard provides an established benchmark.

Titomic added that it is working with multiple aircraft manufacturers to implement Cold Spray technology in their operations and is making positive advancements with additional energy aerospace, and defence clients.

Furthermore, Titomic explained that the Specification provides a strong foundation for US Government support, including consideration by the Office of Strategic Capital. Now a more broadly recognised and validated technology, it enhances the attractiveness of Cold Spray for investment and government backing, while also greatly strengthening its position for commercial engagements within the aerospace and defence industries.

“SAE AMS7057 compliance validates Titomic’s cold spray technology and strategically positions the Company to capitalise on a range of US Government opportunities and initiatives aimed at fostering domestic innovation and manufacturing, such as Department of Defense contracts for military asset repairs, NASA programs for lightweight aerospace components, and Office of Strategic Capital efforts to strengthen domestic supply chains through advanced manufacturing technologies,” stated Jim Simpson, President of Titomic USA.
