Metal Technology Co expands AM capacity with Spectra L

Metal Technology Co Ltd, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is adding a Spectra L Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB) Additive Manufacturing machine from Colibrium Additive, a GE Aerospace company. Metal Technology stated that the investment is set to strengthen its AM contract manufacturing business.
The Spectra L is reported to feature ‘Point Melt’ technology, enabling support-free fabrication and stacked, multi-layer builds. By eliminating the need for base plates and support materials, the system reduces post-processing, shortens lead times, and optimises overall manufacturing costs. In addition, it achieves a surface roughness of approximately Ra 11 and is expected to help reduce strength anisotropy during the build process.
Furthermore, by combining this technology with Metal Technology’s Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) process, the company intends to reduce internal defects and stabilise quality, enabling support for parts that require high reliability.
The Spectra L features a build volume of Ø350 × 430 mm (H) and is suitable for Ti-6Al-4V. The company reportedly plans to launch its AM services in November 2026.
