implantcast GmbH, based in Buxtehude, Germany, has received two further Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB) Additive Manufacturing machines from Colibrium Additive, a GE Aerospace company based in West Chester Township, Ohio, USA. The announcement follows the delivery of Colibrium Additive machines in August last year, with the company expecting more machines to be delivered in July this year.

“With these two additional systems, we are now even better positioned to develop customised and innovative solutions for our patients,” implantcast stated in a LinkedIn post.

implantcast, founded in 1988, is a specialised medical technology company that provides bespoke technologies to orthopaedic surgeons and patients. In 2015, the company purchased its first from Additive Manufacturing from Arcam, a now-retired brand under the GE umbrella, to expand the design possibilities of its custom implants and make the production process more sustainable.

By 2023, the company’s use of Additive Manufacturing had expanded to the point that it was able to launch an AM centre to bundle these capabilities. As of December 2024, implantcast’s production volumes were reportedly up to 40,000 parts per year on eight machines. The centre now holds a fleet of ten.
