From June 25–29, 2019, four metal-focused trade fairs will be co-located at Messe Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf, Germany. Together, GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST (GMTN 2019), will offer a programme covering a wide range of metal-focused topics including metallurgy, Additive Manufacturing, thermo process technology, industrial trends and innovations, and conventional production methods such as casting and foundry technology.

GIFA, the 14th International Foundry Trade Fair with Technical Forum, is an important trade fair for specialised casting technologies. METEC, the 10th International Metallurgical Trade Fair with Congresses, focuses on metallurgy, steel casting and steel production. THERMPROCESS, the 12th International Trade Fair and Symposium for Thermo Process Technology, is focused exclusively on the issues surrounding industrial thermo processing plants, while NEWCAST, the 5th International Trade Fair for Castings, provides a global platform for custom-made cast products and innovative casting technologies.

Together, the combined trade fair will occupy fourteen halls of the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition grounds and is expected to see in excess of 78,000 visitors from over 120 countries, and will host more than 2,200 exhibiting companies. The trade fairs will also be accompanied by international congresses and industry meetings such as the GIFAConference, the European Steel Technology and Application Days/ESTAD, the European Metallurgical Conference/EMC, the THERMPROCESS Symposium and the NEWCAST FORUM. Awards ceremonies such as the NEWCAST Awards and further special shows, such as one organised by the Research Association of Industrial Furnace Manufacturers in the VDMA/FOGI, will also be held during GTMN 2019.

This year, GMTN will also host an Additive Manufacturing show on June 26, with presentations from speakers such as Christoph Dörr, Trumpf; Matthias Steinbusch, Voxeljet; and Ralf Frohwerk, SLM Solutions AG. The AM conference will cover the following central topics:

  • How foundries benefit from AM
  • AM in tool and mould production
  • Processing of zinc die-casting materials in Additive Manufacturing
  • New hybrid manufacturing chains – casting/generation

Other first time events at this year’s conference will be a two-day thermal energy storage forum on June 24–25, and a new Digitisation & Climate Protection congress, which will look at the potential for using waste heat within foundries to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions.
