Freemelt AB, based in Mölndal, Sweden, has received an order from a customer in Singapore to validate its Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB) technology for producing additively manufactured tungsten parts.

Tungsten’s heat resistance and density are vital for a number of applications, including fusion energy, defence, and medical X-ray equipment. Freemelt’s PBF-EB technology is said to overcome the challenges of tungsten’s high melting point and brittleness, producing dense, crack-free parts with minimal oxygen uptake.

The customer is said to be conducting research to drive innovation and develop advanced materials for commercial products.

Freemelt CEO Daniel Gidlund commented, “Receiving our first order from Asia marks a milestone for our company. This achievement not only broadens our global footprint and customer base but also confirms the value Freemelt’s technology brings to the manufacturing of critical tungsten applications. Asia is at the forefront of AM adoption, and this order will increase the awareness of Freemelt in the emerging Asian market, driving new commercial agreements.”
