Sweden’s Freemelt AB, based in Mölndal, and Interspectral, located in Norrköping, have announced a collaboration aimed at integrating Freemelt’s Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB) Additive Manufacturing with Interspectral’s AM Explorer software. Together, the companies look to enhance the precision, scalability and operational efficiency of the technology, focusing on high-standard applications.

The collaboration will leverage multiple project streams, with a focus on deploying AI-enhanced automatic anomaly detection and closed-loop monitoring in Freemelt’s Additive Manufacturing machines. Using Freemelt’s backscatter image data, the teams will work on training and implementing AI models that detect process irregularities in real time, allowing operators to adjust or halt production as needed. This new technology enables efficient, data-driven quality assurance in an effort to support better consistency.

As part of this collaboration, the companies will engage in pilot projects with selected end-users to further refine and test the new solutions, ensuring the tools meet real-world manufacturing demands.

“This collaboration with Freemelt is an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of what’s possible in Additive Manufacturing,” stated Isabelle Hachette, CEO of Interspectral**. “**By combining our expertise in real-time data visualisation and anomaly detection with Freemelt’s cutting-edge [PBF-EB] technology, we are set to deliver unprecedented levels of process control and reliability to the AM industry.”

Daniel Gidlund, CEO of Freemelt, added, “Partnering with Interspectral aligns perfectly with our us vision of advancing our [PBF-EB] technology for industrial serial production within our key segments defence, energy, and medical technology. This integration will empower our customers with smarter, data-driven tools to ensure the highest quality standards, and we look forward to sharing more as our collaboration progresses.”
