DMG Mori, Tokyo, Japan, has opened an AM Innovation Center on the first floor of its Nara Product Development Center (PDC). Its Nara Campus (Yamato-Koriyama City, Nara Prefecture) systems solutions factory is also expected to restart operations this month.

The AM Innovation Center showcases five AM machines:

  • Directed Energy Deposition (DED)
    • LASERTEC 3000
    • LASERTEC 65
  • Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB)
    • LASERTEC 30
    • LASERTEC 12
    • LASERTEC 30

Using DfAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) principles, DMG Mori engineers can propose tailored AM designs for complex workpieces and perform test cuts. The company also also offer peripheral services such as powder storage units and 3D scanners for pre- and post-deposition processes.

In addition, the company offers AM training materials for all skill levels, and showcases over thirty workpiece samples are on display.

Additive Manufacturing at DMG Mori

In 2022, DMG Mori established the AM Lab & Fab at its Global Solution Centers in Iga and Tokyo to support customers with contract Additive Manufacturing services. Recently, the company entered a joint research project with Keio University.

The company is currently expanding its AM applications to the conceptual design and in-house production of its own key components. On April 1st, 2025, DMG MORI Additive Co., Ltd, was established to further support the company’s AM business.
