ASM International, the world’s largest association of materials-centric engineers and scientists, will hold its four-day course on ‘Metallurgy for Additive Manufacturing’ at its headquarters in Novelty, Ohio, USA, from February 11–14, 2019. The course will be presented by instructors Daniel P Dennies, PhD, FASM, and Howard Kuhn, PhD, FASM.

The course is designed to help students learn the similarities between polymer and metal Additive Manufacturing, Powder Metallurgy basics, business aspects and industry trends, safety considerations, and more. It is aimed at individuals interested in transitioning from polymer to metal AM, looking to expand their knowledge on the AM industry, or hoping to learn the basics in able to better understand their products.

The course structure will be as follows:

  • Day One: Metallurgy & Powder Metallurgy
  • Day Two: Powder Metallurgy & Design for Additive Manufacturing
  • Day Three: Additive Manufacturing Case Studies & Post Processing
  • Day Four: Verification & Safety Consideration

On completion of the course, it is expected that attendees will have developed an understanding of how metals are made stronger, how they behave and how the properties can be altered, the primary application for several nonferrous metals and alloys, the fundamentals of Powder Metallurgy, metal powder requirements, production and characterisation, the various metal AM process, heat treating, F/A testing and the verification of AM parts.

Further information and registration details are available via the course page.
