AmPro Innovations, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, has reported securing an order for more than 100 metal Additive Manufacturing machines from an unnamed global consumer electronics manufacturer. The company stated that the order centres on its SP450 multi-laser Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) machine, and represents a significant commercial development as it seeks to expand its international presence.

The SP450 has been developed for industrial-scale metal Additive Manufacturing, with a reported build volume of 450 × 450 × 300 mm and a configuration incorporating eight 500 W lasers. According to AmPro, the machine includes bi-directional powder recoating, long-life self-cleaning filtration, automatic powder feeding and recycling, substrate heating and an inert argon gas processing chamber.

Sinter-based Additive Manufacturing: Beyond the hype, towards industrial success

AmPro states that the SP450 is designed to combine high productivity with competitive equipment and operating costs. The machine is intended to process a range of engineering materials, including titanium, nickel-based alloys, aluminium, steels, copper alloys and pure copper, depending on its configuration and the processing parameters employed.

The SP450 forms part of AmPro’s expanding range of metal AM machines, which includes compact models such as the SP101 and SP160, medium-format machines including the SP501, and larger production machines. Among these is the SP801, which has a published build volume of 800 × 800 × 600 mm and configurations incorporating two or four 1,000 W lasers. The company has also announced an eight-laser version with an extended build height of 1,000 mm.

At the upper end of its portfolio, the SP1200 offers a build volume of 1,200 × 600 × 1,500 mm and incorporates twelve 500 W lasers for large-format component production.

Complementing its metal AM machines, AmPro supplies powder handling and processing equipment, including gloveboxes, sieving machines, vacuum conveying equipment, powder dryers and storage solutions. These are intended to support integrated manufacturing operations and improve powder handling and recovery.

“We are very excited to see the culmination of decades of pioneering research and development coming to fruition, and the recognition of our advanced technologies and solutions by leading global companies across multiple industry sectors,” stated Dr Xinhua Wu, CEO and founder of AmPro Innovations. “Our mission is to bring a new paradigm for affordable AM, and that starts here! This is a critical moment in our rapid development and expansion, so we are not able to share further information at this moment. Together with our team and partners, we will be delighted to welcome new enquiries during the upcoming Formnext in Germany.”

The reported order follows AmPro’s recent announcement of a distribution agreement with UnionTech, headquartered in Shanghai, China, under which UnionTech will serve as its exclusive distributor across the Americas. The partnership covers AmPro’s metal Additive Manufacturing machines, metal powders and associated powder processing equipment, alongside local sales and technical support.

The company plans to discuss its latest developments and potential manufacturing partnerships at Formnext 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany.
