Fathom Digital Manufacturing, headquartered in Hartland, Wisconsin, USA, has acquired TCS Industries and TCS Electronics (collectively, TCS), and Precision Grinding & Manufacturing Corporation (PGM), expanding its precision manufacturing capabilities for the aerospace and defence sectors.

Fathom is a portfolio company of private equity firm CORE Industrial Partners and offers a range of advanced manufacturing technologies, from metal Additive Manufacturing and CNC machining to injection molding and sheet metal fabrication. It now operates ten facilities across the USA and employs approximately 700 people.

The acquisitions add capacity in precision machining, electronics manufacturing, complex assemblies and specialised finishing. Fathom stated that the expanded capabilities will enable it to support customers from product development and prototyping through to qualified, sustained production.

Sinter-based Additive Manufacturing: Beyond the hype, towards industrial success

Matthew Puglisi, partner at CORE, stated, “These acquisitions position Fathom to pursue larger opportunities across aerospace and defense while continuing to invest in the people, technology and manufacturing capabilities needed to support long-term growth.”

“The challenge for aerospace and defence manufacturers isn’t just developing new technologies. It’s having the manufacturing expertise and capacity to produce them reliably and at scale,” said Rush LaSelle, Chief Executive Officer of Fathom.

TCS

TCS Industries and TCS Electronics, based in Rochester, New York, USA, have nearly thirty-five years of combined experience supplying the aerospace and defence sectors. The companies operate two facilities with a combined area of more than 18,500 m² (200,000 ft²).

Their manufacturing capabilities include precision CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, aluminium dip brazing, welding, electromechanical box builds, printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies, and cable and wire harness production.

Manoj Shekar, founder and President of TCS, stated, “Joining Fathom gives us the resources and broader capabilities to build on that success while maintaining the customer focus and operating discipline that have defined our business.”

PGM

Precision Grinding & Manufacturing Corporation, also based in Rochester, has nearly six decades of experience in precision manufacturing. Its capabilities include CNC machining, milling, turning, grinding, lapping, honing, assembly and specialised finishing.

PGM supplies aerospace and defence customers with components ranging from low- and mid-volume production to full-rate manufacturing, including parts requiring stringent quality control and documentation.

Both TCS and PGM hold AS9100 certifications and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) registrations.
