AML3D wins Austal USA order for US Navy submarine parts

AML3D Limited, headquartered in Adelaide, Australia, has received an initial production parts order from Austal USA, based in Mobile, Alabama, USA, valued at approximately AU$0.5 million (approx. US$356,000). The order will transition the production of three large, high-pressure copper-nickel (CuNi) fluid control components from traditional manufacturing to AML3D’s Advanced Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAM) technology, a form of Directed Energy Deposition (DED).

The order follows AML3D’s CuNi qualification programme supporting the US Navy submarine industrial base (SIB), moving the work into production-part manufacturing.

The components, intended for US Navy nuclear submarines, will be additively manufactured at AML3D’s US headquarters and technology centre in Stow, Ohio. Delivery, testing and commissioning are expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of FY27.

Component manufacturing and ARCEMY machine sales are the initial drivers of AML3D’s US Scale-up strategy. The company has deployed 17 ARCEMY machines to meet US demand to date, including 16 in support of the US Navy SIB. AML3D also cites US Navy forecasts indicating a need for up to 100 Additive Manufacturing machines and 1,600 additively manufactured components by 2030.
