Freemelt ONE ordered for Purdue University as Freemelt joins PCAM consortium

Freemelt, headquartered in Göteborg, Sweden, has received an order from its US partner Intalus for a Freemelt ONE Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB) metal Additive Manufacturing machine, which will be supplied to Purdue University’s Manufacturing & Materials Research Laboratories (MMRL) in Indiana, USA. The machine will support research and development in PBF-EB and advanced metal components for industrial applications.
Freemelt ONE is an open research machine designed for the development of materials, applications and process parameters for metal Additive Manufacturing. At Purdue University, the machine will expand MMRL’s capabilities, particularly for research involving refractory metals and other high-temperature alloys.

The order builds on Freemelt’s partnership with Intalus in the USA and supports the company’s strategy to expand its Production Systems business through partners outside Europe.
In parallel with the machine order, Freemelt has joined the Purdue Center for Critical Additive Alloys & Metal Manufacturing (PCAM) as an inaugural member. PCAM is a new industry membership consortium through which member companies help define and select research projects undertaken at MMRL by Purdue University faculty and graduate students.
Freemelt stated that its PCAM membership will provide opportunities for closer engagement with US companies and researchers in sectors including aerospace and defence, nuclear, medical and other advanced industrial applications.
