VF Space secures funding to commercialise wire-laser AM technology

VF Space, headquartered in Goyang-si, South Korea, has closed a Pre-A funding round, with participation from MYSC and Harang Technology Investment, the operator of the South Korea’s New Space Fund. The funding is intended to support the commercialisation of the company’s proprietary Wire Laser Additive Manufacturing technology, which is reported to use metal wire fed through a laser-heated nozzle.

VF Space develops large-scale, high-speed metal Additive Manufacturing machines that the company states are intended to enable the production of faster, more cost-effective large parts. The technology is intended to enhance performance, productivity and economic efficiency across large-scale production, repair and maintenance applications.

GAIA I is VF Space’s largest metal AM machine, capable of producing parts up to 1.5 × 1.5 × 2.1 m in size, with a maximum build capacity of 1.5 tons. VF Space’s control software reportedly continuously monitors all system states, enabling fully autonomous operation. Equipped with the latest Medusa Series, VF Space’s in-house-developed laser head, the machine reportedly delivers high production speed, stability and adaptive resolution capabilities.
