Hagen Symposium 2026 programme highlights Powder Metallurgy resilience and innovation

The 44th Hagen Symposium will take place at Hagen City Hall, Germany, from November 26–27, 2026, under the theme Powder Metallurgy: Resilience in times of change. The German-language event will bring together experts from industry and research to discuss current challenges and developments in Powder Metallurgy, with a focus on resilience, innovation, and resource efficiency.
Topics will include sintered steels, hardmetals, refractory metals, non-ferrous metals and magnetic materials, as well as pressing and heat treatment technologies, Additive Manufacturing and the sustainable use of raw materials.

This year’s SKAUPY Prize will be presented to Dr-Ing Jürgen Cornelius of INTECO melting and casting technologies GmbH, Bruck an der Mur, Austria, in recognition of his long-standing commitment to knowledge transfer and networking within the field of metal powder production. As is tradition, Dr Cornelius will open the technical session with the presentation of his paper ‘Atomization of metallic melts – Development and trends in metal powder production.’
The remaining symposium presentations include:
- Greybox approaches to wear prediction of coated cutting tools,
K Bobzin, RWTH Aachen - Powder pressing under changing technological and industrial conditions,
B Ries, Element Six GmbH - Digital design of optimal heat treatments for powder-technologically produced ceramic and metallic products,
Dr G Seifert, Fraunhofer HTL - Circular Economy at Wolfram as a seed for new business areas,
Dr J Meese-Marktscheffel, HC Starck Tungsten GmbH - Recycling of rare earth-based permanent magnets – Current developments and results,
C Burkhardt, Pforzheim University - Tungsten & Cobalt – Two critical raw materials, resilience in the supply chain,
Dr S Geroldinger, Wolfram Bergbau- und Hütten AG - Additive Manufacturing of copper and copper alloys – trends, challenges and applications,
Dr T Studnitzky, Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden - Material cycle of tungsten in its applications as a refractory metal and as a component in cutting tools,
P Strebler, Ceratizit SA - Utilization of forming effects in manganese-alloyed sintered steels for gears,
Dr R Steinlechner, Miba Sinter Austria GmbH - Challenges for silver-based contact materials in the context of electrification,
Dr C Böhme, SAXONIA Technical Materials GmbH - Rare Earths: China’s market power is growing – what answers will the West find?,
E Damasceno-Hendrich, Tradium GmbH - New tool coating as the key to sustainable hard metal protection – challenges and potentials of long-term portfolio development,
Dr I Iovkov, Oerlikon Surface Solutions AG

The programme will also include a poster session and an exhibition, providing opportunities for attendees to exchange knowledge and discuss current developments across the sector.
