AM Solutions earns Korean Register metal AM certification

Korean Register, headquartered in Busan, Republic of Korea, has awarded a manufacturing process certificate to AM Solutions, Inc., based in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, for its laser wire Directed Energy Deposition (DED)-based Additive Manufacturing repair technology.
This is reported to be the first certification issued under Korean Register’s Additive Manufacturing framework verifying the safety and reliability of repaired metal structures restored using Additive Manufacturing.

The company states that the certification could reduce maintenance costs and lead times in the shipbuilding, offshore and defence sectors by expanding the application of Additive Manufacturing beyond the production of new parts and into maintenance applications.

To commemorate this achievement, an award ceremony was held at the AM Solutions Additive Manufacturing Center. The event was attended by key representatives from the Korean Register, the Republic of Korea Navy, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), Daejeon Metropolitan City, Daejeon Technopark, and other related organisations.
Based on this certification, AM Solutions said it will continue to expand the industrial applications of AM technology in the shipbuilding and defence sectors, while continuing to develop advanced manufacturing solutions for maintenance, repair and extending the service life of components.
