America Makes, Youngstown, Ohio, and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) have announced the winners of the $6 million Powder Alloy Development for Additive Manufacturing (PADAM) 2.0 project call.

PADAM 2.0 is funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory, Foundational Technologies Directorate (AFRL/REMD), and aims to advance the readiness, manufacturability, performance, and supply chain resilience of high-temperature refractory alloys for Additive Manufacturing applications relevant to the US Department of War (DoW).

“PADAM 2.0 is about moving AM refractory alloys from promise to practice,” said John Martin, Additive Manufacturing Research Director at America Makes. “Their outcomes will strengthen domestic manufacturing capability, lower barriers to qualification, and deliver more reliable, high-temperature materials for critical DoW and warfighter applications. Congratulations to the awardees, whose efforts advance the manufacturing industrial base.”

The award winners are as follows:

  • Topic 1: Existing Refractory Alloy Systems
    • Team Lead: Lockheed Martin Corp.
      • Project Team: Quadrus Corporation, Colorado School of Mines, 3Degrees
    • Team Lead: HRL Laboratories
      • Project Team: The Boeing Company, Amaero, Alloyed, Texas A&M University
  • Topic 2: Novel or Emerging Refractory Alloy Systems
    • Team Lead: ATI Materials
      • Project Team: The Boeing Company, University of Dayton Research Institute
  • Topic 3: Refractory Alloy Supply Chain Assessment (Mine-to-Qualified Part)
    • Team Lead: Colorado School of Mines
