Scrap Labs to debut affordable Scrap 1 metal AM machine

Scrap Labs, based in Boulder, Colorado, USA, has announced that it will debut its Scrap 1 metal Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing machine at the Rocky Mountain RepRap Festival (RMRRF), scheduled to take place April 18–19, 2026, in Loveland, Colorado.

Matt Woods, founder and CEO of Scrap Labs, stated that his experience developing lower-cost metal Additive Manufacturing machines over the past decade has demonstrated how incremental engineering improvements can be combined to deliver more accessible equipment.

Scrap 1 was developed with first-principles engineering to enable affordability, with the company emphasising a focus on manufacturing efficiencies without compromising safety or performance.

According to the company’s pricing and availability announcement, initial kit versions of the Scrap 1 are priced from $9,600, with a limited-time early offer. After April 30, 2026, kit pricing is expected to increase to $14,200, with fully assembled machines expected to start at $17,990.

Pre-orders are now open, with shipments expected to begin in early 2027. RMRRF attendees will have the opportunity to view the Scrap 1 machine and sample parts, and to meet the Scrap Labs team.
