DN Solutions has opened its first European Additive Solutions Center (ASC) in Gütersloh, Germany, positioning the facility as both a regional demonstration hub and the operational base for the company’s global Additive Manufacturing activities.

The centre is said to reflect a broader trend among machine tool manufacturers seeking to integrate metal Additive Manufacturing more tightly with established CNC machining workflows. Rather than presenting AM as a standalone technology, DN Solutions is emphasising hybrid manufacturing strategies in which AM processes are combined with subtractive finishing and automation within a unified production environment.

The Gütersloh ASC will host training programmes, application demonstrations and support for turnkey industrial projects. According to the company, the facility is intended to help manufacturers evaluate how metal Additive Manufacturing can be integrated into existing production lines, particularly in applications where complex geometries or internal features make conventional machining inefficient.

Spanning approximately 1,000 m², the centre highlights the interaction between Additive Manufacturing and CNC machining technologies. DN Solutions stated that this integration can reduce development times for new manufacturing processes while improving productivity in the production of complex components.

In line with this, the ASC features the company’s DLX series of metal Additive Manufacturing machines as well as a range of CNC turning centres, milling machines, five-axis machining centres and automation systems. Machines installed at the site include the DLX150 and DLX450 AM machines, as well as CNC platforms such as the DNX2100, DVF5000, Lynx2600 and DNM5700.

By combining these technologies within a single application centre, DN Solutions is aiming to demonstrate complete process chains, from additive build through to precision machining and finishing operations.

Hybrid manufacturing as strategy

For DN Solutions, Additive Manufacturing forms part of a longer-term strategy to expand its capabilities beyond conventional machine tools. The company has positioned metal AM as a complementary technology to CNC machining rather than a replacement, particularly for components requiring complex internal geometries, weight reduction or improved material utilisation.

Industries such as aerospace, medical technology and semiconductor manufacturing are key targets for this approach, as these sectors increasingly require parts with intricate internal channels, lattice structures or other features that may be difficult to produce using traditional subtractive methods.

DN Solutions describes its hybrid concept as AM2CNC, reflecting a workflow in which components are built additively before undergoing CNC machining to achieve final tolerances and surface finishes.

This hybrid production model is intended to align with the broader direction of industrial metal Additive Manufacturing, where processes are often integrated into conventional manufacturing chains rather than deployed as isolated production machines.

Gütersloh in the European market

According to DN Solutions, the choice of Gütersloh reflects both logistical and industrial considerations. Located in North Rhine-Westphalia and close to the A2 motorway, the city sits within one of Germany’s most significant manufacturing regions. Major industrial companies such as Miele and Bertelsmann are based in the area, alongside a network of suppliers, research institutions and technology partners.

The company also highlighted its collaboration with regional automation and control specialist Beckhoff as part of the ecosystem supporting the centre.

The opening of the ASC also follows the company’s recent acquisition of German machine tool manufacturer Heller, a move that signals DN Solutions’ intention to strengthen its presence in the European advanced manufacturing sector.

Global AM infrastructure

The Gütersloh facility is one of three Additive Solutions Centers operated by DN Solutions worldwide. The others are located in Changwon, South Korea, and Chicago, USA. Together, these centres are intended to form a global network designed to support application development, technology testing and knowledge exchange across regional markets.

Within that structure, the European ASC will play a role in evaluating hybrid manufacturing processes and adapting them to the requirements of European manufacturers.
