China SciLong plans expansion with over 100 metal AM machines

Ningbo Zhongke Xianglong Lightweight Technology Co., Ltd (China SciLong), based in Ningbo, China, is reported to be planning a major expansion of its metal Additive Manufacturing capabilities that is intended to include the acquisition of more than 100 metal Additive Manufacturing machines.
According to an interview with company founder Zhang Hao published by China Times on July 21, the project will involve a total planned investment of more than RMB 100 million (approximately US$14 million). The company stated that the machines will support a new aerospace key-component manufacturing and pilot production project.

China SciLong, a company established through the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering (NIMTE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), provides metal Additive Manufacturing, post-processing and inspection services for aerospace applications.
The company told China Times that it currently operates 51 metal AM machines, including 11 large-format versions. Equipment installation at its AI and metal Additive Manufacturing research and development base reportedly began in April 2026.
According to Zhang, the company’s Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) approach integrates structural design optimisation with Additive Manufacturing, enabling product iteration cycles to be reduced by 50–60% compared to conventional manufacturing processes.

The report adds that China SciLong has developed a portfolio of more than seventy intellectual property assets, including over twenty invention patent applications, whilst more than 60% of its workforce is engaged in research and development. The company also plans to establish a research and development centre in Beijing to further expand its engineering capabilities.
The planned investment represents a significant expansion of the company’s manufacturing capacity and reflects continued investment in China’s aerospace Additive Manufacturing sector as demand grows for lightweight, high-performance metal components.
