3YOURMIND, Berlin, Germany, has released a new advanced materials comparison feature in the recent 3YOURMIND Version 24.5 update. This feature functions as a smart technology and material recommendation for metal and polymer Additive Manufacturing, built on collaboration with producers and technology providers.

One major challenge most companies face while adopting AM is to do with material requirements, states 3YOURMIND. Compared to conventional manufacturing like CNC machining, where the properties are more or less defined by the raw material, qualifying parts for AM requires a lot of knowledge, time, and iterative design.

3YOURMIND explained that some customers experienced further challenges because of a lack of transparency about available AM materials. These customers used to collect data from multiple websites, from multiple suppliers in order to compare options — and still might not trust the data.

3YOURMIND’s feature has filled a conventional material database with over 1,200 Additive Manufacturing materials, which can be produced on over 840 AM machines.

The embedded smart filtering and sorting functionalities help users select and find the right material to manufacture the AM part. As material entries are bound by technology, it is also now possible to get insights about the manufacturing technology for the screened part.

Users can discover and compare key material features such as flame retardancy and corrosion resistance. This is intended to enable smart filtering of the best AM material and technology for a given application. Further, the platform also notes fixed prices for catalogue parts

The platform also offers the ability to configure which materials users want to consider internally and for external production as well as to add individual logic to produce the best options.

This release is being rolled out to 3YOURMIND’s SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) customers in the coming days.
