Université de Limoges acquires Titomic D623 Cold Spray for aerospace applications
February 24, 2025

Titomic Limited, based in Brisbane, Australia, has announced the sale of a D623 Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing machine to the Université de Limoges (UNILIM), France, in collaboration with Surface Advanced Functionalization for Industry and Research (SAFIR).
The D623 will be used in the development of aerospace applications, with UNILIM and SAFIR undertaking the project on behalf of a multinational aerospace, defence, and security corporation.
UNILIM’s investment in the D623 builds on its existing Titomic D523 low-pressure machine, significantly expanding research capabilities in advanced surface engineering for aerospace. The D623 enables the deposition of harder materials, including titanium and other advanced metal alloys, which are essential for enhancing material performance, wear resistance, and component longevity in high-stress environments.
The order furthers Titomic’s presence in aerospace, complementing its existing Additive Manufacturing machine at TWI UK, which services the commercial aerospace industry. It also adds to the growing adoption of Titomic Cold Spray AM machines by major aerospace firms, including Airbus, for aerospace MRO applications.
This order aligns with the projected global expansion of cold spray AM technology, which is expected to grow from $1,046.3 million in 2022 to $1,713.0 million by 2030 at a CAGR of 6.4%, per Grandview Research. Growth within aerospace and the adoption of cold spray AM as a repair technique for lightweight alloys are said to be the key drivers of this trend.
