Laser hardening company LaserTool i Blekinge AB, Olofström, Sweden, has announced its strategic expansion into Additive Manufacturing through its investment in an SLM 500 Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) AM machine from Nikon SLM Solutions. Installation and commissioning are scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.

With over twenty years of expertise in laser hardening, LaserTool will leverage its industry knowledge and advanced manufacturing capabilities to produce large-scale structural components, spare2 parts, tooling, and prototypes using high-strength steel powders from SSAB, Stockholm. The investment includes expanding the company’s production facilities by an additional 400 m2 to accommodate the new equipment and enhance operational capacity.

“With this investment, LaserTool will meet growing market demand and strengthen our competitive edge as a comprehensive manufacturing partner,” said Martin Nilsson, CEO of LaserTool. “Additive Manufacturing opens new opportunities, enabling us to create components that were previously impossible with conventional methods, significantly reducing material waste, and improving our environmental footprint.”

The SLM 500 Additive Manufacturing machine is specifically designed for high productivity in complex prototyping and series production. To further enhance the technology’s environmental benefits, all of LaserTool’s AM production will use green electricity.

Sam O’Leary, CEO of Nikon SLM Solutions, added, “We’re proud to support LaserTool’s ambitious expansion into Additive Manufacturing. Our collaboration marks an important milestone in increasing the adoption of Additive Manufacturing technologies in the Nordic region. LaserTool’s expertise, combined with our advanced SLM 500 system, will drive innovation and set new standards for manufacturing high-strength steel components.”
