July 30, 2024
The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) has announced its newest subsidiary: El Paso Makes.
Initially established in 2023 as a wholly owned subsidiary of NCDMM, El Paso Makes is intended to act as a one-stop resource for manufacturers in and surrounding El Paso, Texas, helping them access quality suppliers, industry resources, and research needed to ensure that the demands of the aerospace and defence markets are met.
El Paso Makes is focused on growing the region’s aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing ecosystem through education and workforce development, fostering business opportunities, and diversifying the nation’s defence industrial base.
In 2023, El Paso Makes purchased 250 acres and began construction on an Advanced Manufacturing District. This area will combine aerospace & defence design teams and manufacturing operations with support services & training for hardware start-ups and SMEs. The Advanced Manufacturing District will be purpose-built with a standard physical, cyber, and digital infrastructure to help reduce costs and meet the requirements of aerospace and defence markets.
“NCDMM is a nationally recognised industry leader in executing successful applied research and development projects to improve DoD weapon and support systems,” stated Randy Gilmore, Vice President and Chief Development Officer at NCDMM and President at El Paso Makes.
“We will work collectively with stakeholders and industry experts to propel the El Paso region forward, foster innovations, and expand the talent stream of our nation’s aerospace and defence sector.”
El Paso Makes is an economic development partnership powered by the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Aerospace Center and the WM Keck Center for 3D Innovation at UTEP, City of El Paso, County of El Paso, Workforce Solutions Borderplex, Rio Grande Council of Governments, and the El Paso Chamber.
