MELD Manufacturing celebrates CHIPS and Science Act anniversary
September 25, 2024
MELD Manufacturing Corporation, located in Christiansburg, Virginia, USA, is celebrating the two-year anniversary of the CHIPS and Science Act. This legislation, which was enacted two years ago, was designed to increase private investment in domestic semiconductor manufacturing and scientific research across the United States.
Among its many provisions, the Act established the Tech Hubs Program within the US Economic Development Administration (EDA), aimed at fostering innovation and economic growth through targeted regional investments.
The state of Virginia is reported to have greatly benefited from this programme. The Virginia Additive Manufacturing and Applied Materials Strategy Development Consortium, located in the New River Valley and Danville, received a $500,000 Strategic Development Grant. This funding will play a crucial role in advancing Additive Manufacturing technologies, with the goal of reshoring manufacturing and enhancing the resilience of domestic supply chains.
MELD Manufacturing Corporation played a part in this initiative, with Senator Kaine visiting its facility last year to highlight its significant contribution to the region’s industrial development and technological advancement. The CHIPS and Science Act not only supports projects like MELD Manufacturing’s, but also invests over $81 billion in the USA’s National Science Foundation (NSF), including substantial funding for critical technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing. Additionally, the Act provides $13 billion to strengthen America’s STEM workforce through education and training programmes.
