Global Powder Metallurgy Database receives update

The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) has announced an update to the Global Powder Metallurgy Property Database (GPMD). The free to use database contains data representing many thousands of tests on hundreds of different material grades, collected from a wide range of sources. Now, with a new interface and cloud-based server, the response time for detailed searches has been greatly improved.
The GPMD was launched in 2004 as a joint project between the EPMA, Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) and Japan Powder Metallurgy Association (JPMA), with the Asian PM Association (APMA) joining the database partners in 2020.
Originally covering the ferrous PM industry, the GPMD has been updated a number of times over the years to include the nonferrous PM and MIM sectors. Information has since been added covering strain-controlled fatigue data, along with the ability for users to reference microstructural phases in materials processed by conventional sintering, elevated temperature sintering, accelerated post-sintering cooling, and more.
The GPMD is fully searchable and outputs can be exported to several well-known FEA packages. The data is displayed in a user-friendly format viewable in both tabular and graphic formats and it is hoped it will be of particular interest to design engineers in a range of industries.
