DMG Mori highlights process reliability of latest LASERTEC 30 SLM

In a recent technical article, DMG Mori, Tokyo, Japan, highlighted the process reliability and reproducibility of its recently released LASERTEC 30 SLM 3rd Gen Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing machine.
Beyond the positioning of optical modules and the use of its rePLUG system powder processing units, DMG Mori noted the use of a rigid gantry frame and floating process chamber. The third iteration of the LASERTEC 30 SLM incorporated its experience in turning and milling machine construction to produce a machine with a cast iron frame and ‘floating’ process chamber. This chamber can expand freely during temperature fluctuations, thus reducing thermally induced distortion.
In the first two generations of the LASERTEC 30 SLM, DMG Mori concentrated on the optimum process design for laser melting. When developing the 3rd generation, the company said that it focused on achieving comparability of components. This, the company said, is something which may prove beneficial to users who have struggled with changing component qualities in series production.
“This is enabled by technical innovations that are based on experience in machine tool construction and with which DMG Mori ensures unprecedented process stability,” explained Jan Riewenherm, Head of Technical Sales & Marketing at DMG Mori Additive GmbH.
In focusing on solving these issues, DMG Mori anticipates that the 3rd generation of the LASERTEC 30 SLM can lower the entry barrier to Additive Manufacturing, allowing interested parties the opportunity to make use of AM for small-or large-series production.
