Additive Manufacturing Users Group announces 2018 scholarship recipients
March 22, 2018
The Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) has announced Emrah Celik, Ph.D, and Master’s student Daniel Delgado Camacho as the recipients of its 2018 scholarships. The scholarship awards will enable Celik and Delgado Camacho to attend the AMUG Conference (AMUG 2018) in St Louis, Missouri, USA, April 8-12, 2018.
The AMUG conference is one of the AM industry’s leading annual events, drawing engineers, designers, managers and educators to its conference and exhibition hall. According to the organisers, this year’s conference programme includes over 200 presentations, workshops and hands-on training sessions, including keynote addresses by Todd Grimm, T. A. Grimm & Associates, and Dr Ing Dominik Rietzel, head of BMW Group’s Additive Manufacturing Centre (Non-Metal).
Celik, who has been awarded AMUG’s Randy Stevens Scholarship, is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Miami, Florida, USA, and has integrated Additive Manufacturing into the engineering classes he teaches. He also works closely with NASA, the U.S. Air Force and the Army Research Laboratory through his research laboratory, the Advanced Nano Systems Laboratory (ANSyL), investigating novel AM methodologies for the fabrication of energy-harvesting materials and reinforced composites for strong, lightweight structural components.
Speaking on his selection for the scholarship, Celik stated, “Although I have extensive experience with the 3D printing techniques, my interaction with the Additive Manufacturing community has been very limited. I envision that attending the AMUG Conference will give me the opportunity to initiate long-lasting interactions with the AM community.” The Randy Stevens Scholarship, founded by Randy’s employer, In’Tech Industries, is awarded annually to one educator that emphasises or focuses on additive manufacturing.
Delgado Camacho has been awarded the Guy E Bourdeau Scholarship. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, USA, researching the application of AM in the construction industry, with a focus on concrete extrusion processes. The Guy E Bourdeau Scholarship, founded by Renee Bourdeau, is awarded annually to one college student.
Brett Charlton, AMUG Scholarship Committee chair, commented, “Our committee is excited to award these scholarships to two promising individuals in the AM community. Congratulations to both Dr Emrah Celik and Mr Daniel Delgado Camacho. They will be bringing fresh ideas and perspectives on how to grow Additive Manufacturing in new dimensions through education of our next generation and new applications in industry.”
