The 2nd Munich Technology Conference on Additive Manufacturing (MTC2), co-sponsored by Oerlikon and the Technical University of Munich (TU Munich), will be held at TU Munich, Germany, from October 10–11, 2018. The first MTC was held in October 2017 and attracted more than six hundred attendees.

MTC2 will focus heavily on the industrialisation of Additive Manufacturing, with questions to be addressed across the conference programme including:

  • How the speed of AM industrialisation can be increased
  • What challenges remain and how to overcome them
  • How the industry can learn from current market success stories
  • Identifying the main cost drivers along the value chain and how these can be reduced
  • Identifying the focus areas of today’s hardware providers
  • What materials are being used today and which may be of special interest in the future

Participants from a cross-section of industries, academia, government and associations will be present during the conference to discuss these issues. Presentations will be given by companies and institutions including GE Additive, Trumpf, XJet, BASF 3D Printing Solutions, BMW Group, Fraunhofer IWU, Concept Laser, GE Aviation, EOS, Siemens, Boeing, MTU Aero Engines and HP.

According to the organisers, topics of particular interest at MTC2 will include applications for AM in the aerospace, automotive, medical and power generation industries, as well as its application in general industry and tooling. Further details of the conference programme will be released nearer to the date.

The 1st Munich Technology Conference: AM on course for broad industrial use

In 2017, Metal AM published an in-depth report on the 1st Munich Technology Conference in which we invited Prof Dr-Ing Michael Zäh, Chair of Machine Tools and Production Technology at the Technical University of Munich, to consider the status of metal AM as revealed over the event’s two days of presentations and discussions. To read the report and learn more about what you can expect from MTC2, simply view the embedded copy of Metal AM Winter 2017 (Vol. 3 No. 4) below, or download as a free pdf by visiting the archive.
