Registration for the Alloys for Additive Manufacturing Symposium (AAMS) 2018 will close on Friday, August 10, 2018. This year’s AAMS will be hosted by MAPP, the EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hub, from September 3-4, 2018, at Inox, the University of Sheffield, UK. The event is the latest in a series of Europe-wide Additive Manufacturing workshops and symposiums and follows a successful event in 2017, hosted by Empa-Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, in Dübendorf, Switzerland.

AAMS2018 will cover all Additive Manufacturing technologies which include a metallic phase, with session topics expected to include:

  • Phase transformations in AM-produced alloys
  • Structural and functional properties of AM-produced alloys
  • Advances in processing
  • Residual stress and cracking phenomena
  • Alloy design
  • Metallic metamaterials

MAPP Director and RAEng Chair, Prof Iain Todd, University of Sheffield, stated, “We are pleased to be hosting the AAMS, which will be an international showcase for top quality research and offers a great opportunity for learning, networking and discussion. The symposium fits in well with MAPP’s work towards the application of new technologies to drive right-first-time manufacturing for advanced powder processes.”

Led by the University of Sheffield, MAPP brings together leading research teams from the Universities of Leeds, Manchester and Oxford, and Imperial College London, together with an initial group of seventeen industry partners and six of the UK’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult (HVMC) centres. MAPP is funded by the UK’s Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC).
