Zhuzhou Hanhe Industrial Equipment Co., Ltd. (CPIE), headquartered in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, China, has announced that it will showcase its continuous-electrode vacuum gas atomisation technology at Formnext 2026, designed for the production of spherical metal powders, including titanium alloys and superalloys used in aerospace applications.

The system incorporates an enhanced Electrode Induction Melting Gas Atomisation (EIGA) process, which uses crucible-free melting to reduce the risk of contamination when processing reactive alloys. According to CPIE, its continuous electrode-feeding technology enables electrode bars to be replaced without shutting down the furnace or breaking the vacuum, reducing production interruptions and material waste while supporting continuous, 24-hour operation.

Sinter-based Additive Manufacturing: Beyond the hype, towards industrial success

The company states that its approach addresses several challenges associated with metal powder atomisation, including high argon consumption, limited fine-powder yields and interruptions during electrode replacement.

Key considerations in the production process include maintaining consistent electrode diameter tolerances, stable high-frequency induction power and controlled vacuum or inert gas conditions. The continuous-feeding mechanism must also maintain furnace sealing during electrode changes to prevent atmospheric contamination.

CPIE also highlights the importance of optimising atomisation gas flow, nozzle design and argon recovery to control operating costs while achieving the required powder particle size distribution. These factors are particularly relevant to metal Additive Manufacturing and Powder Metallurgy applications, where powder quality and production efficiency are important considerations.

CPIE reports that its engineering team has more than a decade of experience in metal processing equipment. Its product portfolio includes metal powder atomisation systems, vacuum melting furnaces, sintering equipment and industrial automation solutions. The company also states that it operates in accordance with ISO 9001 quality management practices.

In addition to equipment supply, CPIE offers process consultation, system specification support, installation, commissioning, operator training and maintenance services for manufacturers seeking to integrate powder production systems into existing facilities.
