ValCUN, headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, has announced the launch of REMUS 1.0, its next-generation industrial printhead incorporating the company’s wire-based Molten Metal Deposition (MMD) Additive Manufacturing technology. REMUS 1.0 enables integration with robotic systems, CNC machines, or the company’s MINERVA Additive Manufacturing machine, allowing for customer-tailored manufacturing setups across various production environments.

“REMUS 1.0 is the tool to truly industrialise MMD,” stated Jonas Galle, Co-founder & CEO of ValCUN. “MINERVA allowed us to refine the process and understand the industry’s needs — REMUS is born out of that learning, translating those insights into an industrial product.”

REMUS 1.0 has been developed to address throughput, reliability, and ease of deployment. Moreover, operating independently from a build plate and part dimension, REMUS enables direct application on existing parts or surfaces, opening possibilities such as:

  • 3D-optimised geometries for high-mix, low-volume production, maximising design freedom for large or non-planar parts
  • Addition of functional features for part consolidation, weight reduction, and cost efficiency
  • Part repair and enhancement
  • Control of different industry-desired high-strength aluminium alloys

Through collaborations with integrators, ValCUN aims to provide a complete, machine-agnostic industrial solution, enabling REMUS to operate across multiple robotic and machine platforms.

Equipped with ValCUN’s patented MMD technology, REMUS 1.0 incorporates high-throughput wire feeding, localised preheating and oxidation cleaning, toolpath following, and non-planar motion control. Future extensions will include real-time process monitoring for closed-loop control and in-situ quality assurance, ensuring consistent performance with both standard and high-strength aluminium alloys (6xxx and 7xxx series).

Jan De Pauw, co-founder & CTO of ValCUN, added, “With REMUS 1.0, we’re not just building a product — we’re scaling a vision. Our mission is eventually to be present in every metal workshop, complementary to CNC milling and other conventional state-of-the-art metal manufacturing technology.”
