SMS group GmbH, headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany, will exhibit its metallurgical plant solutions at METEC 2019, the international trade fair for metallurgy, set to run in Düsseldorf, Germany, from June 25–28, 2019. The company states that digitalisation and its ‘New Horizon’ strategy will be the focus, and it will also showcase some of its biggest projects with exhibits and interactive presentations.

According to the company, it will highlight topics including its use of innovative methods – self-learning process models, real-time data transmission and virtual reality, and others – said to enable plants to operate at maximum performance for high profitability. Big River Steel, which the company states is the world’s most modern steelworks, has been designed and constructed by the SMS group as a ‘learning steel plant’. It reports that this is just one example of how the company’s digitalisation strategy is achieving success along the value chain, from liquid steel to the end product.

In addition to digitalisation, the SMS group will showcase the development of new business fields under its ‘New Horizon’ strategy, including:

  • The field of Additive Manufacturing, from Powder Metallurgy and functionally-optimised design to additively manufactured components for ‘service on demand’ – SMS groups says it will present the entire process flow
  • New products and developments for extracting metals from previously unproductive and secondary sources, such as recycling metals from electrical scrap
  • Methods for CO2-free steel production, which can significantly improve the environmental footprint of the steel industry

The company will hold a series of ‘Leading Partner Talks’ during the event, which will reportedly offer partners a platform to share impressions and insights from their professional fields with an international audience. These talks will take place throughout the event.
