SBO expands metal Additive Manufacturing capacity with Velo3D, Renishaw and EOS machines

Precision equipment manufacturer SBO, headquartered in Ternitz, Austria, is expanding its metal Additive Manufacturing capacity in the US and the UK, while its subsidiary 3T has received industry recognition. The company states that both developments advance SBO’s diversification strategy in the growing AM market.
In the US, SBO has expanded AM capacity by adding one Velo3D Sapphire XC Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) machine and two Renishaw 500Q PBF-LB machines for high-performance alloys Inconel and titanium in Q2 2026. In addition, two more Velo3D Sapphire XC machines have been ordered and will be delivered and operational in Q3 2026.

In parallel, SBO is expanding the AM space at its Houston, Texas site by 50% to more than 2,100 m². This additional capacity, in conjunction with the existing high-precision post-processing capabilities, is intended to serve rising customer demand from the space, aerospace, defence, semiconductor, energy and other industries. SBO states that the expansion is intended to address expected growth in the Additive Manufacturing market from roughly $1.5 bn in 2025 to $4.8 bn by 2030.
SBO is also strengthening its market position in metal AM in Europe. 3T Additive Manufacturing Limited, based in Newbury, UK, has been part of SBO’s Precision Technology division since October 2025 and was named ‘Tech SME of the Year’ at the Thames Valley Tech & Innovation Awards 2026. SBO states that the jury recognised the team’s technical expertise, its leadership in material and process data, and its continued growth in metal AM. In addition, 3T has expanded its manufacturing capacity by adding another M 400 to its fleet of EOS machines in Q2 2026. In Q3 2026, a second machine was also ordered for delivery by the end of the quarter. Additionally, 3T has invested further in post-processing equipment. SBO states that the acquisition of 3T expanded SBO’s customer base in the high-growth industries of space, aerospace, defence and semiconductors.
