MIMplus sees aerospace and defence opportunities for MIM at ILA 2026

MIMplus, Ispringen, Germany, has reported growing opportunities for Metal Injection Molding in the aerospace and defence sectors following its attendance at ILA Berlin 2026, a biennial aerospace trade show covering aviation, space, defence and the wider aerospace supply chain.
Held from June 10–14, 2026, the event attracted around 110,000 visitors and more than 700 exhibitors from thirty-seven countries. According to MIMplus, discussions with customers, partners and developers from the aviation, aerospace and defence sectors provided an opportunity to assess the issues currently shaping these industries and the potential role of manufacturing technologies, including Metal Injection Moulding and Additive Manufacturing.

The defence sector was reportedly one of the strongest areas of growth evident at the trade show, with particular attention given to unmanned systems, sensor technology, protection systems and new European defence programmes. MIMplus reported that discussions at ILA indicated that companies are seeking European manufacturing partners capable of producing complex components and systems reliably, cost-effectively, and to a high standard of quality. Security of supply and resilient supply chains were also recurring themes.
In the aerospace sector, the company identified lightweight construction and functional integration, more sustainable and efficient aviation, expanding space programmes, and stable supply chains and component availability as recurring themes. Demand for high-precision components and new manufacturing technologies is also increasing, particularly for satellite and space applications.

The requirements placed on aerospace and defence components continue to increase, alongside demand for parts that combine low weight, functionality and cost-effective production. According to MIMplus, Metal Injection Moulding can fulfil several of these requirements and is being considered at an early stage of some development projects as companies assess manufacturing routes for more efficient, high-performance components. Additive Manufacturing and permanent magnets may also support new design approaches and provide additional optimisation opportunities, depending on the application.
MIMplus concluded that aerospace and defence remain important growth markets, with innovation, lightweight construction and resilient supply chains expected to continue shaping requirements in the coming years. The event also provided the company with opportunities to establish new contacts, discuss potential projects and exchange information on future industry requirements.
