GE Aerospace’s first production GE9X engine delivered to Boeing

GE Aerospace has announced that the first production GE9X engine has been delivered to Boeing. The GE9X engine achieved FAA certification in 2020 and around 300 additively manufactured parts are used in each GE9X engine. These parts are produced at GE’s Avio Aero facility in Cameri, Italy, and GE’s Additive Technology Centre in West Chester, Ohio, USA.
AM parts include fuel nozzle tips, low-pressure turbine blades, heat exchangers, and inducers. Many of these parts combine multiple components into one, and some cannot be manufactured in any other way.
Powering the new 777-9 aircraft, the GE9X also features carbon fibre composites and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs), as well as Additive Manufacturing. The GE9X provides up to 10% better fuel efficiency than the GE90-115B and has the lowest passenger CO2 footprint in its class, with NOx emissions reported to be 40% better than any competing engine.
