Freemelt and North Carolina State University establish new Application Center
January 10, 2025

Freemelt AB, based in Mölndal, Sweden, has announced that it will establish a new Application Center in partnership with the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL) at North Carolina State University (NC State University). This venture will support Freemelt-Americas’ customers with development projects and feasibility studies, to support serial production using Freemelt’s Additive Manufacturing machine, eMELT.
CAMAL at NC State University is an AM hub, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government to support innovation and on-shoring in the US. CAMAL currently has one Freemelt ONE Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) machine in operation.
Development projects undertaken at the Application Center will be funded by companies interested in using eMELT for production use.
“Partnering with NC State University, through its renowned CAMAL center, is a vital step in our US expansion. The Application Center will meet the growing demand for feasibility studies and proof-of-concept projects, helping companies transition to serial production and advancing our position in critical sectors such as defence, energy, and medical technology,” stated Daniel Gidlund, CEO Freemelt.
This newest collaboration will commence with a feasibility study linked to a customer order Freemelt received from a North American industrial customer in October 2024. This customer chose to validate Freemelt’s PBF-EB technology for the manufacturing of high-temperature metals.
