AML3D Limited, headquartered in Edinburgh, Australia, has announced an order valued at approximately AUS $9.9 million for four custom ARCEMY X 6700 Directed Energy Deposition (DED) Additive Manufacturing machines from Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), a division of HII, USA. HII is the USA’s largest military shipbuilder, delivering naval vessels including aircraft carriers and submarines. Upon completion of the order, NNS will operate a total of six ARCEMY X machines.

The systems will be manufactured at AML3D’s US Technology Centre in Ohio. Installation and commissioning of the four additional ARCEMY X machines are expected to take place during the third quarter of FY2027.

The ARCEMY X machines supplied to NNS are based on the ARCEMY X 6700, configured with an approximately 11,000 kg positioner to enable high-capacity builds.

According to AML3D, the continued adoption of its Additive Manufacturing technology by HII is intended to reduce lead times, improve component quality compared to conventional manufacturing routes, and reduce material waste. The additional systems are expected to support a range of shipbuilding applications, including the production and replacement of large-scale components.

“The step change in the size and value of this HII ARCEMY order is very much reflective of the strong and growing demand signals that underpin AML3D’s continued expansion into the US defence market,” stated Sean Ebert, AML3D CEO. “It is also a strong endorsement of our US ‘Scale up’ strategy which included establishing our US technology centre in Stow, Ohio, and our plans to invest $12 million to expand our US production capabilities.”

“Not only do we expect to see a continued growth in US defence orders we are also looking to continue to expand into other sectors,” Ebert added. “We have already successfully supplied ARCEMY technology to the Tennessee Valley Authority, the largest public utility in the US, and are targeting growth across the US marine, energy, aerospace and oil & gas sectors. In addition, we are seeing the emergence of early-stage demand in our UK and European markets that is similar to the demand signals that are driving our success in the US.”
