AML3D granted European patent for its Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing process
July 26, 2023
AML3D Limited, headquartered in Edinburgh, Australia, has announced that it has been granted a European patent for its Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing process. This patent, granted by the European Patent Office, is aligned with the Australian patent granted in June 2021, and provides coverage over AML3D’s method and apparatus for manufacturing metal AM parts.
The European process patent offers additional protection for AML3D’s intellectual property and, according to AML3D, is the only Additive Manufacturing company to be granted a European process patent.
While AML3D’s immediate focus remains on scaling up sales of its ARCEMY systems to industrial manufacturers within the US defence, marine and aerospace industries, the company reportedly plans to leverage its position within Europe and its US scale up playbook to target sales to OEMs supporting the European defence, marine and aerospace industries over the medium term.
Sean Ebert, Interim CEO, AML3D, shared, “This is a significant milestone for our company and our technology journey. The granting of this patent is further validation of our proprietary technology and also secures our position as a global provider of a major industrial metal 3D Printing process. The market demand for advanced wire feedstock Additive Manufacturing, that can address supply chain risk, deliver time and cost savings and better ESG outcomes continues to accelerate. This additional international process patent protection will further strengthen our position in a significant and growing addressable market.”
