America Makes announces $1.1M US-UK Additive Manufacturing interoperability project call
March 5, 2025

America Makes, based in Youngstown, Ohio, USA, and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) have announced a new open project call worth a total of $1.1M. Funded by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering’s Manufacturing Technology Office, the project aims to establish Additive Manufacturing equivalency and interoperability between the United States Department of Defense (DoD) and United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) supply chains.
The ‘Allied Additive Manufacturing Interoperability (AAMI) Program,’ will focus on the Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) Additive Manufacturing of critical parts. It will also identify barriers to allied interoperability and support the development of international qualification approaches. Two awards are anticipated.
The US and UK face shared challenges in adopting AM, including process qualification and certification, intellectual property rights, secure data transmission, and supply chain integration. This initiative, in alignment with the UK Advanced Manufacturing Strategy and the US Regional Sustainment Framework (RSF), aims to overcome these hurdles and build a resilient and globally connected Defense Industrial Base adaptable to complex logistical demands.
Proposals are due by May 5, 2025, and can be submitted here.
