Fehrmann Alloys GmbH & Co KG, Hamburg, Germany, has reported that its aluminium alloy AlMgty has been qualified on Additive Manufacturing machines from SLM, EOS and Concept Laser. Extensive testing has shown that the alloy achieves comparable mechanical properties and densities over 99%, regardless of the AM machine.

The alloy is qualified for SLM 280, EOS M 290 and Concept Laser M2 and productivity is said to be similar to that of typical aluminium AM powders (such as AlSi10Mg). AlMgty, however, offers increased flexibility and can be used to manufacture products with tailored mechanical properties and combinations of superior strength and ductility.
