Additive Industries b.v., together with its industrial design partner VanBerlo, has announced it has won a prestigious Red Dot Award for the design of its industrial metal Additive Manufacturing system, MetalFAB1. VanBerlo designed the exterior of the MetalFAB1, reflecting both the advanced technology and industrial character of the process.

The modular design of the MetalFAB1 system allows for customer and application specific process configuration. Multiple build chambers with individual integrated powder handling make this industrial system the first to combine up to four materials simultaneously in one single machine. MetalFAB1 is also the only system to include a furnace for integrated stress relief heat treatment. The size of a single build envelope (420 x 420 x 400 mm) places the MetalFAB1 among the top three largest metal AM systems available.

“We are proud of this result of ultimate team work between the R&D engineers of Additive Industries and the designers of VanBerlo,” stated Thomas Paulen, CEO of VanBerlo. Daan Kersten, Co-Founder and CEO of Additive Industries stated, “Design is often overlooked but crucial for a successful acceptance of new technology like 3D metal printing. I’m confident the design of both the equipment and the user interface have contributed greatly to the early sales of our MetalFAB1 systems.”
