GE Additive, Munich, Germany, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Aerospace Industries Association (KAIA), Seoul, South Korea, and and Incheon Industry-Academy Collaboration Institute (IIACI), also based in Seoul. The MoU is expected to strengthen cooperation in Additive Manufacturing for the Korean aerospace industry.

Key areas of cooperation covered by the MoU will include:

  • providing Additive Manufacturing education to Korean manufacturing companies in the aerospace industry
  • offering GE Additive’s consulting service AddWorks for defining the business case for AM, designing for additive, making parts, enabling production and setting up quality programs
  • recommending KAIA members join GE Additive’s Manufacturing Partner Network, based on assessment of their capabilities

GE Additive’s Manufacturing Partner Network reportedly aims to create an open marketplace that will accelerate both supply and demand for AM, and is addressing several commercial challenges to help the additive industry reach its next inflection point.

Oh-jung Kwon, Vice Chairman of KAIA, commented, “We hope that the agreement with GE Additive will serve as an opportunity for domestic aerospace companies to expand their capabilities in manufacturing aircraft parts and expand into the global market.”
