Identify3D provides software for digital manufacturing security, quality and traceability

SLM Solutions Group AG, Lübeck, Germany, is collaborating with Identify3D, Inc., San Francisco, California, USA, to develop a solution for data protection coupled with contractual and manufacturing licensing from part design to production. By securing all digital data in the engineering phase, the technology will enable SLM Solutions to secure digital IP, enforce production rules and provide traceability in the digital supply chain.

Identify3D provides software for digital manufacturing security, quality and traceability.
Stephan Thomas, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Identify3D, stated, “We are very happy about our collaboration with SLM Solutions as the technological leader in metal-based Additive Manufacturing, and the delivery of this proof of concept is a key step to enable decentralised manufacturing, one of the key elements of Industry 4.0.”

According to the partners, the combination of better security, quality assurance and traceability is a critical step to enable a number of industries to accelerate the adoption of Additive Manufacturing into existing supply chains, such as aerospace, transportation, tooling, energy and healthcare.

Henner Schöneborn, member of the Management Board of SLM Solutions, explained, “With the solutions of Identify3D we can offer our customers a secure way to manufacture from digital design according to very specific manufacturing requirements at machine level. This is much needed to accelerate the adoption of Additive Manufacturing for serial production of end parts.”

By integrating Identify3D’s EnforceTM security offering with SLM’s MCS machine control software, the current proof of concept has been applied to the SLM 125, SLM 280, SLM 500, and SLM 800 Additive Manufacturing systems, offering secure control over the quantity of parts to be produced over a defined period of time with selected parameters.

Identify3D and SLM Solutions stated that they are currently in talks regarding a further integration of Identify3D-Solutions into the product portfolio of SLM Solutions.
