VRC Metal Systems, Box Elder, South Dakota, USA, has agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Flame-Spray Industries, Inc. (FSI), a provider of thermal sprayed coating services based in San Diego, California, USA. The MOU will enable the companies to use their cold spray technologies, products, and processes to design, manufacture, and market to the automotive industry and the on-road and off-road industrial equipment industry.

Founded in 2013, VRC develops advanced technologies including cold spray for a range of industries and is a leading company in the global cold spray equipment market. It is a full-service cold spray company that designs and manufactures equipment, and handles the development of component repair applications, equipment integration, training, and onsite and regional support.

FSI has been developing and implementing advanced thermal spray services for over fifty years, serving a variety of industries including R&D, automotive manufacturing, and heavy equipment engine manufacturing. The company states that it is also responsible for inventing the PTWA (Plasma Transferred Wire Arc) thermal spraying process.

“VRC has enjoyed a very productive relationship with Flame Spray Industries for many years. This new cold spray partnership will further solidify the leadership position of both companies within the automotive coatings industry,” stated Rob Hrabe, CEO, VRC Metal Systems.

This MOU announcement follows several recent milestones for VRC Metal Systems which include the development of the company’s C.A.M.P. Site™ spray unit and the VRC® Dragonfly ™ cold spray system (both of which are fieldable Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing machines), being selected to take part in the U.S. Navy’s REPTX exercise and receiving the 2022 Elevate Rapid City “Large Business of the Year” Award.
