The Barnes Groups Advisors (TBGA), headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, has announced the addition of Rob Carter to its ADDvisor® Services team. Carter is said to have over eighteen years of experience in the defence and medical sectors, most recently having served as Director for Advanced Materials and Process Engineering at Stryker Orthopaedics.

During his time at Stryker, he was responsible for leading the development of new materials and Additive Manuacturing techniques for new orthopaedic devices. Prior to that role, he spent sixteen years with the US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) as Branch Chief of Materials Manufacturing Technology and Founding Director for the Center for Agile Materials Manufacturing Science (CAMMS).

In these roles, Carter reportedly led the development of manufacturing technologies for lethality and protection applications, research into AM and cold spray technologies, development of new materials and designs for army applications (alloys, ceramics and composites), and the development of specifications and standards for defence materials and manufacturing requirements. He also led ARL’s long-term manufacturing research strategy and was the laboratory’s representative for the Department of Defense (DoD) working group with America Makes to create the DoD AM Roadmap.

John Barnes, Managing Director, TBGA, stated, “Rob is a tremendously valuable addition to our ADDvisor team. His depth of experience, particularly in leading research strategy in Additive Manufacturing for defence applications, aligns perfectly with our core mission to industrialise the AM industry.”
