Bike component manufacturer Mythos, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, UK, has released an additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4V bike stem for mountain bikes: the Ixo. This stem is produced by Metron Advanced Equipment, also based in Ilkeston, via Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB).

Designed around extreme load-paths experienced by a stem, the Ixo is reportedly 16% stiffer in torsion and 11% stiffer in bending, when tested side-by-side with an equivalent alloy system. Testing was done in accordance with ISO 4210-5 – Cycles – Safety requirements for bicycles.

Mythos offers optional alignment on Ixo stems; this process adds centre marks to the top and sides of the handlebar clamp for accurate handlebar centring and rotation.

A launch video was released on YouTube.
