AML3D opens US technology centre and HQ with plans to double US manufacturing footprint
December 12, 2024
AML3D Limited has announced that its new technology centre and US headquarters, located in Stow, Ohio, are now fully operational. The new facility is currently equipped with an ARCEMY Additive Manufacturing machine designed to produce industrial-scale metal components for its US and international customers. Installation of a second machine is scheduled for early 2025.
“The official opening of our fully operational US technology centre in Stow, Ohio, alongside plans to expand to more than double our US manufacturing footprint, is a very exciting moment in the evolution of AML3D,” stated Pete Goumas, AML3D President of US Operations. “We can now super-charge our US ‘scale-up’ strategy, not only in support of the US defence sector and, in particular, the US Navy submarine industrial base but also the US energy and defence aerospace sectors.”
Goumas continued, “AML3D can now be much more responsive to our existing US customers, we are much better positioned to win new customers and contracts and to play an important role in rebuilding sovereign manufacturing in the US. I expect the combination of our large and expanding US manufacturing capability, new direct sales team and our existing value-added reseller partnership with Phillips Corp will supercharge our growth.”
Under Goumas’ leadership, Stow is the base for AML3D’s direct sales, administration and technical teams in the US, which will leverage the existing and planned US manufacturing capacity to accelerate growth.
The Stow manufacturing hub is already operational and working on an initial order from Tennessee Value Authority, the largest public utility in the US. This inaugural order will supports the company’s to expand its operations by up to two additional ARCEMY machines. This expansion is intended to meet the expected step change in US Department of Defense spending on advanced additive manufacturing solutions to support the US Navy’s Submarine Industrial Base.
US-based manufacturing is also a pre-requisite for accessing lucrative contracts restricted by the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (‘ITAR contracts’) and other US-only controlled information defence contracts. AML3D has Manufacturing License Agreements in place to support the US Navy and Boeing which included compliance with US Government regulations that support access to ITAR contracts. AML3D’s US manufacturing hub will also position the company to take advantage of any government policy changes to support US-based manufacturing.
Sean Ebert, CEO, stated, “The opening of our US manufacturing hub and, just as importantly, our plans to more than double its capacity are important next steps in our US ‘scale up’ strategy. The huge demand we have already experienced in the US has translated to over A$16 million of contracts, for the most part serviced from our Australian manufacturing hub. Building substantial manufacturing capability in the US to meet expectations of a more than ten-fold increase in US defence spending on advanced Additive Manufacturing, in particular to support the US Navy’s submarine industrial base, will allow us to be way more effective in meeting our existing and new US customers’ needs.
“Our expanding US manufacturing footprint also frees up capacity at our Australian facility that we can use to support a roll out of our US playbook in other significant global defence markets with a focus on AUKUS partners, Australia and the UK. We already have runs on the board with recent contract wins to support the Australian Government’s Defence Science and Technology Group. The roll out of our ‘scale-up’ playbook in Europe is at an earlier stage but we are directing funds from our recent capital raise to establish and ARCEMY system in Europe to take advantage of the demand signals we are seeing in the UK in particular, which are similar to those that supported our move into the US market.”
